When to undergo breast reduction

Unlike most other types of plastic surgery, which are predominantly focused on beautification, breast reduction is performed primarily because of health reasons. It is often recommended to women suffering health problems caused by oversized breasts associated with their extreme weight, which cannot be removed even by earnest physical exercise.

How breast reduction is performed and how long it takes?

Women with oversized breasts suffer from breast hypertrophy. Two types of breast hypertrophy occur. The first type is caused by superfluous fat tissue and it frequently occurs in patients experiencing overall body overweight or obesity. With this type of hypertrophy, the operation is easier, as fat tissue to be removed is flexible. Operating the second type of hypertrophy is more complicated, as hypertrophy of mammary gland is involved. Breasts with an oversized gland are usually more rigid, that is why their modelling is more difficult.

Recovery after breast reduction

Virtually immediately after breast reduction, troubles the women experienced before the reduction disappear, or at least diminish significantly. One or two days after the surgery, drains inserted during the course of operation can be removed, hospitalisation usually takes 2 days as well. The patient leaves the hospital wearing a special bra for 24 hours a day for a period of 6 weeks.
