How to choose the best breast implants?
Many women ask, which breast implants are the best. In 85 % of cases, the Esthé clinic uses MENTOR® breast implants filled with the silicone MemoryGel®. We are convinced of their quality. The reason is a general satisfaction and high quality requirements. MENTOR MemoryGel® breast implants have been the choice of over 2 million women throughout the world.
Which types of breast implants?
The right choice of implant is highly individual. To make the resulting effect fulfil your expectations, the implant type should be appropriate for your particular bodily constitution. When selecting your implant and breast modelling, your plastic surgeon will naturally assist you. In general, the choice of breast implants is based on several criteria. The main ones include size, base shape, profile height, gel cohesivity and implant type. They are either round or anatomical in a „drop“ or tear shape.
When to choose drop shaped implants and when round implants are preferred?
Drop shaped anatomic breast implants are more appropriate for a natural breast shape with a smooth transition, while round implants provide a more pronounced neckline. You can imagine them for instance together with a push-up bra.
However, there are exceptions that may change the overall effect. For example when the breast gland is very small, round implants may produce an unnatural result. When your breast is distinctly shaped, but not in line with your wish, you can use a round implant to add some volume and lift. They add more volume in the upper part than drop shaped ones. A disadvantage of large round implants is that they may lead to the “double bubble” effect. Double breast undulation is thus produced. In such case, anatomic implants are preferable for a stronger breast effect.
If you desire large breast implants of 400 ml or more, anatomic implants will always look more natural than round ones. They will form a more generous neckline, and that is why they are sometimes called drop shaped implants. They are intended for a more natural breast shape.
How long breast implants will last?
The life of breast implants is not restricted by the manufacturer. You will be recommended to attend a regular breast check-up once a year. If an implant continuity rupture is identified, you should consult a surgeon to assess the situation and consider whether a replacement of implants is required. Such decision is highly individual. Implants are regularly subject to quality tests. For instance, during strength tests, MENTOR® implant casings, or shells, are extended to 450 % of their original length. The shell must pass the test without any damage!
The implant condition is thoroughly inspected during the check-up, and if a rupture or fissure is identified, a replacement is always necessary. Conversely, when the capsulotomy and implant are intact, it can be retained. An Esthé physician will assess the situation.
“This always depends on patient’s comfort, some keep their implant even for 20 years. However, our body gradually changes in shape, and this also applies to breasts. Quite simply, natural laws work, causing natural shifts. Then patients usually ask for larger implants including modelling, or removal of implants and a subsequent modelling. However, everything is about consulting with the physician. We recommend attending regular ultrasonic sono or mammo check-ups”, says Esthé clinic’s plastic surgeon Ondřej Mešták, M.D., Ph.D.
Are silicone breast implants safe?
Physicians generally trust medicinal silicone. It has been used in medicine for over 50 years. It is a highly reliable, easily sterilizable and biocompatible material.
