If drains have been inserted during the course of operation, they are removed after 24 to 48 hours. The patients leave the clinic without drains, wearing an elastic bra. Immediately after the intervention, the patient usually feels quite good and often resumes her everyday activities already in 2 weeks.
The patient should come back to the clinic between 17 and 21 days after the surgery, when non-absorbable hypodermic sutures need to be removed. However, we frequently use absorbable sutures, in which case the first visit can be made as late as a month from the surgery. Afterwards, adhering to the physician’s recommendations is sufficient. During 6 weeks after the surgery, an elastic bra without underwire should be worn and not removed even at night. For approximately 4 weeks, the patients have their scars protected with low allergy adhesive dressings. For 4 to 6 weeks, they should avoid physically demanding activities.
How to prevent complications after breast modelling
Breast modelling is relatively gentle to human body, that is why complications are not frequent. The patients do not need to undergo any special pre-surgery preparation and should only follow several rules. From three weeks before the surgery, they should stop administering medications influencing blood clotting. It is advisable to undergo mammology and sonography examinations, and possibly also mammography.
From midnight before the operation, patients should not eat, drink and smoke. An exception are patients undergoing the procedure after lunch, who may have a breakfast. A general rule applies that eating and drinking are forbidden from 6 hours before the intervention. The skin should not be treated with any cream, underarms shall be shaven before the procedure. The intervention cannot be performed in case the patient suffers from acute acne, eczemas or fungus in inframammary folds. Understandably, the intervention is excluded when the patient’s overall health condition is not satisfactory.
Rare post-surgery complications may include for instance a hematoma or wound infection. This can be prevented mainly by choosing the right surgeon and the right specialized institute. In patients with lower healing capabilities, the post-surgery scar may hypertrophy, which usually occurs temporarily and fades away within 12 to 18 months. In case of persistence, subsequent medical care is necessary.
